Tasting Notes
Veuve Fourny Grande Reserve 1er Cru NV
Variety: 80% Chardonnay for finesse and elegance, 20% Pinot Noir for body and texture.
Region: France Vertus.
Chardonnay plots are quite fine and minerally, whilst the Pinot Noir component fuller, richer and more fleshy. Slopes face South and South-East giving optimal maturing conditions. Average age of the vines is 40 years.
Tasting Note: Excellent combination of fruit and subtle biscuit aromas. A lovely balance of breadiness and freshness
Winemaking: Hand-picked. Fine but complex and funky aromas typical of Vertus. Quite chalky and creamy with some biscuit like characters from the Pinot Noir. 40% Reserve wines from previous vintages added. Traditional ‘house’ style. On tirage for 2 ½ years. Dosage is 6 grams / litre.
Reviews:
A blend of 80% chardonnay and 20% pinot noir. 40% reserve wines from 2010-2012 matured in French foudres and in bottle (on lees) for at least two and a half years, this disgorged October ’18. It is fine and intense, and has tremendous drive and length to its citrus and apple flavours. Exceptional value. 94 Points. The Weekend Australian, Nov 2019
