Pol Roger 2013 Brut Vintage continues to carry on a tradition of quality vintage champagnes from a the hugely popular Champagne House. Showcasing clear focus and specific attention to all of their Vintage Cuvees and a vintage specific and vast contrast to former vintages (2012). This wine continues to follow the classic house blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Sourced from 20 Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, with a dosage of 7-8g/l.
“The 2013 Pol Roger vintage is notably brisk and bright, and in real contrast to 2012, so it will be just right for Italy and France, while our British customers [chuckles] will say it is too young. But you can keep the wine longer; the customers for our vintage Champagne are people who want to keep the wine in their cellars.” Christian de Billy, Winston Churchill’s great-great-grandson.
Disgorged in April 2020 with a dosage of 7g/l and an abv of 12.5%, the 2013 is pale gold in colour, showing aromatic vivacity, with alluring beurre blanc and biscuity notes, and a steady stream of bubbles coat the tongue with a foaming mousse combining elements of peachiness with light toasty complexity as the fruit turns savoury and saline on a mouthwatering finish. Still remarkably youthful, this should develop in complexity if given its due. (92 points) : The Real Review DEC 2020
