Tasting Notes

Charles Heidsieck NV Rose may only account for 4% of total house sales but it is ever present in their winemaking focus. Complexity, Precision and Generosity are the house Pillars when defining this Cuvee.

"35% chardonnay, 40% pinot, 25% meunier; 60 crus; 20% reserves of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot; reserves average 5 years of age; 5–6% red wines from Les Riceys; fermented in stainless steel tanks, cru by cru, variety by variety; 11g/L dosage; cork; just 4% of the sales of the house

For Cyril Brun, Les Riceys produces the ideal red wine for Charles Heidsieck Rosé, soft and fruity, never angular or aggressive, respectful of the base wines and deeper in colour than the red wines of the north of Champagne. The result is a medium salmon-copper hue, though colour is not the focus here. The gloriously splendid complexity of lees age in concert with rich reserves rises on the palate, resonating with wonderful allure of roast chestnuts, baked
apples, dried fruits of all kinds, anise, exotic spice, truffle, honey and freshly baked pâtisserie, laced with delightful wisps of pipe smoke, yet presented with dynamism and definition. The 2012 base is of course fresher than the 2008 before it, presenting precise red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, red apple and berry compote fragranced with rose petals, and underlined by the structural assurance of firm, fine tannins that fuse effortlessly with the
expansive sea of generosity that is Charles. Salt chalk minerality hovers with magnificent line and length. The 2008 base still soars with focus, precision, freshness and breathtaking red fruit purity. Outstanding". Tyson Stelzer The Champagne Guide
